Biography: Dr Suchetana GhoshB.A. in History (Jadavpur University, Calcutta); M.A. in Social Work (TISS, Mumbai); M.Phil. in Social Sciences in Health (J.N.U., New Delhi); PhD (J.N.U., New Delhi).Dr Suchetana Ghosh specialises in interdisciplinary research areas converging Gender Studies-Medical Humanities-Public Health-Social Work.Dr Ghosh’s PhD thesis, “A Social History of Disease and Prostitution in Bengal: From Syphilis to AIDS”, was a comparative and interdisciplinary study of public health policies of the colonial empire and the contemporary Govt in the context of prostitution and STDs. Her M.Phil. dissertation was a work on the nature, type, cause, source and impact of violence on the health of the women in prostitution at Kolkata.She was awarded a prestigious JRF by ICHR and a UGC Plan Fellowship by UGC to work on the PhD thesis.Suchetana co-edited newsletters and organized several seminars andworkshops in the areas of gender studies-women’s studies-development studies in India. She has presented papers in various national and international seminars, workshops and conferences. She also holds life memberships of various professional and academic organisations.Suchetana taught at the Department(s) of Social Work at University of Delhi and the Central University of Rajasthan, respectively. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Work, Bankura University.
