About me
Asia Ahmed is a graduate student in Social Work at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign with a passion for mental health advocacy, community engagement, and creating more open conversations around emotional wellbeing. As a first generation American of Indian descent, much of her perspective is shaped by both her personal experiences and the communities she has worked alongside over the years. Before beginning graduate school, Asia worked at Khalil Center in Lombard, Illinois, where she helped organize mental health conferences, workshops, and international trainings. Her work involved coordinating events, collaborating with clinicians and speakers, and helping create spaces for thoughtful dialogue and connection. Through those experiences, she developed a deeper appreciation for culturally responsive approaches and the importance of making support more accessible within diverse communities. In addition to her academic and professional work, Asia is also a wife and mother of three boys, roles that continue to shape the way she connects with and understands others. She values authenticity, compassion, and lifelong learning, and hopes to continue building work that brings together advocacy, community, and meaningful human connection.
